The 2008
Emory Physician Assistant
5k Fun Run

Emory PA’s Run for Grady and Other Causes

The Emory University Physician Assistant Class of 2009 will be hosting the 7th Annual Physician Assistant’s Care to Share 5K Fun Run at Lullwater Park on April 12, 2008.  Our goal is to raise $20,000 to benefit three local charities: The Good Samaritan Health Center, the South Georgia Farmworker Health Project, and the Henry W. Grady Health System Foundation.

Location: Lullwater Park, 1463 Clifton Rd NE, Atlanta GA 30322

Date: Saturday, April 12th, 2008
Time: Day-of Registration 8:00 am, 5K Run 9:00 am, Kids 1 Mile Run 10:00 am
Price: $20 adult ($25 day of race registration), $12 for kids 12 and under

Pre-registration for the race can be completed at  http://www.active.com/page/Event_Details.htm?event_id=1532829 . Donations of support can also be made through this online site.

A portion of The Fun Run funds will benefit the Henry W. Grady Health System Foundation which is a nonprofit organization that leverages private resources to support the Grady Health System.  Grady Hospital is the only level I trauma center in the region, the ambulance provider for the city of Atlanta, home to Georgia's only poison center, the only 24 hour sickle cell center, and one of the nation's largest burn units.  Grady is a vital resource of care for the community, and of clinical rotations for PA and Medical students, and it is facing a financial crisis.  Emory students want to help in any way possible.

A portion of the funds will go to the Good Samaritan Health Center. “Good Sam” is an indigent care clinic with three locations in the Atlanta area.  This nonprofit clinic offers medical, counseling, social, and dental services to the local homeless and working poor. In 2004, Good Sam saw 17,500 patients - 20% were homeless and an additional 70% were uninsured working poor. In 2006, only 23% of the operating budget was covered by patient fees.

This fundraiser will also support the South Georgia Farmworker Health Project., an outreach project of the Emory PA Program. This project provides free health care to migrant and seasonal farm workers in the fields of Echols, Lowndes, and Decatur counties of south Georgia.

Any donations are tax-deductible and can be made payable to the Emory University Physician Assistant Program.  Please submit donations through the link above, or send checks to:

Congratulations Graduates!

On December 9, 2006, 51 students walked across the stage in the Woodruff Health Science Center Administration Building, and became Emory PA Masters of Medical Science graduates. In addition, four practicing PAs completed the Masters of Medical Science in Career PA program, and also participated in the graduation ceremony. We recognize the hard work, achievement, and service of all 55 graduates! Alumni can find a link to video of the ceremony by entering the Grad-Web portal of this site, and visiting the Alumni News page.

Class of 2008 Leaves on Clinical Rotations

After a very busy year on campus, students from the Class of 2008 scattered to various hospitals, private physician's offices, and clinics to begin clinical rotations. You can enjoy a review of their first year with us here.

One Class Remembers, Another Prepares

Many of Emory's PA students participate in the annual South Georgia Farmworker Health Project, and for many this is a memorable service-learning experience. As we review our June 2005 outreach,  join three of our 2003 graduates as they describe their memories of the Project.
