Our History
|
|
The Emory University
Physician Assistant Program evolved from the pioneering Medical Specialty
Associate program at Grady Memorial Hospital in the late 1960's under the
direction of Dr J. Willis Hurst. The PA Program came under the Emory
School of Medicine in 1971, with the first class graduating in 1973.
The Program functions within the
Department of Family and Preventive Medicine of the School of
Medicine, part of the Robert W. Woodruff
Health Sciences
Center. The Center is comprised of Emory University School of Medicine, the
Rollins School of Public Health, the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of
Nursing, and Yerkes
Regional Primate Research
Center. The Health
Sciences Center components
dedicated to patient care delivery are incorporated in Emory Healthcare,
the largest health care system in metropolitan Atlanta. The Emory PA
Program has prepared over one thousand graduates for national and state
certification as primary care physician assistants.

Our Mission
|
| The Emory Physician Assistant Program recruits, educates and mentors a
diverse group of students to become highly regarded, sought after physician
assistants providing compassionate health care of the highest quality. |
Our Vision
|
| The program emphasizes evidence-based primary care and preventive
medicine, the provision of health care to the medically underserved and
utilization of information technology to achieve these goals. The Program
promotes team care, patient advocacy and the delivery of primary health care
for all patients. Graduates are prepared to assume leadership roles, support
research, to practice clinically in a wide variety of primary care and
specialty settings and to engage in life-long learning. |
Our Values
|
| The PA program faculty values the highest standards of professionalism
and seeks to prepare graduates who have the ability to be strong supporters
of team-based practice, to be flexible in meeting the challenges of a
changing health care environment and to be role models for the profession. |
