CD Review Set for PA Students and PA Programs

bulletAn electronic version of the Fall 2006 Board Review is now available. This review consists of 31 hours of core medical lectures. Emory students have found the review and CD set to be very helpful as they prepare to take the PANCE.  Each lecture consists of a split screen format with a window displaying the lecturers' PowerPoint slides and the other window displaying video of the lecturer. This four CD-set requires Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6+ (free at http://www.microsoft.com) and the latest version of Windows Media Player (free at http://www.microsoft.com). A high speed connection (DSL or cable) is NOT required for this CD set. Your computer will need a sound card and speakers to hear the audio. The CD is not compatible with Apple/Mac operating systems. A current version of the Internet Explorer browser is also required, as the CDs will not work with Mozilla Firefox or Netscape browsers. You must accept ActiveX content when playing the CDs.

bulletAs a demonstration of the new format utilized for the Certification / Recertification Review recording, you may view the complete lecture on "A Review of Hematology", presented by Allan Platt, PA-C. Mr Platt is a popular lecturer at state and national conferences. The lecture objectives and test questions are also available for examination. A copy of the lecture handout is also available. To view this demonstration you will need a current (i.e., Version 6 or higher) version of Internet Explorer and of Windows Media Player ( Version 10). A high speed connection (Cable or DSL)  is required. Please be patient as the video file buffers and prepares to play; this may take a minute or two. Please note that this demonstration utilizes streaming files over the Internet. As bandwidth and connection speed can affect your reception of this file, we have chosen to release the final Certification/Recertification set only as a CD set which will not require an internet connection. If you are prompted by your Browser that "Active X" content is detected, please "allow blocked content" to view the demo.

bulletThe Review consists of lectures to refresh the learner's knowledge on a wide range of core medical problems and content including reviews of Dermatology, Pediatrics, Fluid and Electrolytes, GI Disorders, Psychiatry, ENT, Ophthalmology , Cardiology, Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Neurological Disorders, Orthopedics,  Endocrinology, Pulmonary Disorders, Infectious Disease, Hematology, EKG interpretation, Chest X-ray interpretation, OB-GYN, and other topics.

bulletThe Review Conference is designed based upon the list of topics potentially on the PANCE / PANRE as provided by the NCCPA, and by review of the PANCE / PANRE board exam matrix of question distribution. Obviously, the exact content of the PANCE and PANRE exams is confidential and not known to the developers of the Review Conference, and no suggestion is made that the Review Conference or practice exam questions represent the level of complexity or distribution of topics on the actual examinations.

bulletAs a bonus, the CD set this year includes Mr Platt's presentation on the use of PDA devices in medicine, Put a Palm in your Practice or PDAs for PAs. This lecture is for those who approach new technology with fear and trembling, and will help you see how PDAs can help bring the latest evidence based information to your fingertips at the bedside. PDAs can help reduce medication errors, organize your schedule, help your differential diagnosis and even study for the boards.

bulletThe discounted price for student purchases (no CME credit) is $130 per CD set (GA residents need to pay sales tax; please call 404.727.7827 to verify you tax rate). Please download and use the order form. PA Programs may also purchase the CD sets in bulk for use with their students (see below).

bulletAs a bonus, Mr Platt is continuing to make available his Differential Diagnosis Mnemonics for the Palm file for PDA use. If you are a PDA user, we encourage you to download and install it. This free palm application is a downloadable zip file that requires you to download it and save it to your PC, use an unzip program, and then follow the directions in the "Read me first" text file.

PA Programs may purchase the CD sets in quantity:

CD sets (10-40 copies) $100 / set

CD sets ( 40-80 copies) $4000

Institutional orders include two (2) complimentary copies for PA faculty, with CME eligibility (requires post test). Institutional orders should use this order form. Please call 404.727.7827 if you have questions about institutional orders.
